Paula Bennett hoping to leave hospital today

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett hopes to be discharged from hospital today after being admitted with bronchitis and pneumonia.

Ms Bennett went into Waitakere Hospital on Friday after feeling unwell with bronchitis all week. Her doctor diagnosed she also had pneumonia.

She was still unwell, but was keen to get out of hospital as soon as she could and hoped to be discharged today, a spokeswoman said.

A decision would be made tomorrow on whether she could return to work. Parliament is in recess but Cabinet still meets tomorrow.

"We don't anticipate we will need to transfer any ministerial duties. We do think she's on the mend," the spokeswoman said.
