National picks up support: poll

The latest Roy Morgan political survey shows support for the Government has returned after it took a major hit in recent polls.

The National Party, which polled at 40.5 per cent in the last Roy Morgan poll, has jumped up 6 points to 46.5 per cent.

Despite the resurgent support, the poll results showed if an election were called now it would be too close to call.

Support for coalition partners remained low with the Maori Party on 1.5 per cent and ACT and United Future on 0.5 per cent.

A previous poll showed support for Labour and the Greens had bumped up enough to give a Labour-Greens coalition the seats it would need to govern.

Support for Labour has fallen from 35.5 to 31.5 per cent.

Support for Prime Minister John Key has also grown, to 46.5 per cent - up 6 per cent since April this year.
