Cannabis concealed in woman's clothing

One of two women caught at the Queenstown International Airport trying to carry cannabis concealed in their bras to Christchurch appeared in the Queenstown District Court yesterday

Te Arohanui Tihema (52), shed hand, of Christchurch, set off the airport security scanner when walking through to board her April 17 flight to Christchurch, prosecutor Sergeant Ian Collin said.

After she was "wanded" with a hand-held scanner, Tihema was taken to a private office where she "admitted she was carrying cannabis bullets that she had secreted in her bra".

Tihema was found to be carrying 28 bullets of cannabis in four packages in her bra, the total weight of which was 50g.

Counsel for Tihema said she had conceded "it was a stupid thing to do and she felt like a big fool".

Tihema was remanded for sentencing on July 27 at the Rangiora District Court.
