Makers of a documentary series showcasing New Zealand and its
wine industry are set to hit Queenstown next month to film
two episodes.
Supported by Tourism New Zealand, The WINERAM
Experience web series travels the country to show off its
wine, culture and adventure activities.
The aim of the series is to change the way the wine industry
is perceived by young people and producer Colin West believes
Queenstown's adventure atmosphere is the perfect place to do
this.
"The adrenaline capital of the world [is the] perfect spot to
start this documentary that is showcasing New Zealand's top
destinations, the country's natural beauty, its most exciting
adventure sports and its finest wine." West had recently been
acting as sommelier at Queenstown's Gantley's Restaurant.
From February 9 the production team of West, director James
Holman and director of photography Rupert Critchley will
visit the region's vineyards as well as the resort's more
adventurous activities.
Traditionally, wine had been viewed as the domain of an older
demographic and the series would explore why "Generation Y"
was the "world's fastest-growing consumers" of wine.
"[A younger audience] can enjoy, understand and embrace the
industry through adventure and travel," West said.
The first season would focus on travelling through wine
regions in New Zealand and highlight the "Kiwiana flavour".
The episodes would feature local winemakers, as well as New
Zealand's sporting stars and other celebrities.
The crew would document each wine region in the country,
while seeking out adventurous activities.
It was hoped the new approach to wine education would "open
doors to all legal ages groups, genders and walks of life".
