Drunken revelry leads to arrests and inquiries

A 23-year-old Queenstown man and a 22-year-old Australian man were arrested and charged with fighting in a public place after an alleged fight outside Fergburger on Saturday at 1.35am. Both men were intoxicated. The Australian was also charged with resisting arrest.

• A drunk man allegedly smashed a window pane at Base Backpackers hostel on Saturday at 2.30am. Police inquiries are continuing.

• An intoxicated 27-year-old Englishman who worked in Christchurch was arrested and given a pre-charge warning for offensive behaviour after he allegedly urinated in Rees St on Saturday at 4am.

• A drunk 22-year-old Columbian man was arrested and given a pre-charge warning for offensive behaviour after he allegedly urinated outside Night 'n Day in Camp St at 4.01am.

• A 29-year-old Australian woman was sent home at Queenstown Airport for carrying prescription drugs belonging to someone else.

The waitress, who was travelling with her partner from Sydney, was stopped at the airport on Saturday at 6pm. She spent the night in a cell at the Queenstown police station and was sent back to Sydney on Sunday at her own expense.

• A drunk 22-year-old University of Otago student was allegedly abusive to SkyCity Queenstown Casino staff when asked to leave and police were called on Sunday at 1am. The man allegedly abused police officers and was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour.

• Guests in the Lofts apartments were evacuated and Queenstown firefighters attended when a fire alarm was deliberately activated on Sunday at 3am. Alcohol might have been involved and inquiries were continuing, Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown, said.

• A car registered to a Glenorchy address was towed on Sunday at 7am as it was blocking the Glenorchy-Paradise road.

• A 23-year-old Manapouri man was seen intoxicated at Queenstown Airport by police on Saturday. Further checks resulted in him being arrested on Sunday and charged with being in breach of his bail conditions.

• A 19-year-old Dunedin woman was charged with driving with a breath-alcohol level of 282mcg, being under 20. The woman was stopped when she allegedly drove at 84kmh in the 50kmh zone towards the main roundabout in Frankton.

• A 21-year-old Queenstown man was arrested and charged with assault on Sunday at 7.15pm.

• A 60-year-old man from Whataroa was charged with driving with a breath-alcohol level of 777mcg on State Highway 6 in Frankton on Sunday at 8pm. His licence was suspended for 28 days.

• Inquiries are continuing into the wilful damage committed against the Station building at the intersection of Shotover and Camp Sts on Tuesday at 1.10am. A police officer on patrol discovered a large window pane was broken.

• A 32-year-old Australian man was stopped at Queenstown Airport in an "immigration turnaround" and held overnight in Queenstown police station until he was sent back across the Tasman.

• A 6-year-old Auckland boy visiting with his family was reported lost on Tuesday at 2.50pm for 30 minutes when he walked off. The boy was found safe in a ski shop he and his mother had visited earlier.

• Between 40 and 50 rings of firewood were stolen from a resident during daylight hours on Thursday. Sergeant Mark Gill, of Queenstown, said the Queenstown Lakes District Council felled trees on Tuesday and gave timber to the resident. It was taken from a fenced reserve in Wynyard Cres.
