Breaching bail conditions leads to arrest

A 32-year-old Queenstown man was arrested on Tuesday night and charged with breaching his bail conditions. He is expected to appear in the Alexandra District Court.

• A 26-year-old Wanaka man is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court on Monday charged with theft after allegedly taking a meat pie in Fresh Choice supermarket on Tuesday night.

• A 25-year-old American man was arrested early on Wednesday and charged with drug offences. Queenstown police visited a Frankton Rd address on related business at 3.15am and allegedly found a small amount of marijuana on the man. He is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court on Monday.

• A 30-year-old Australian was ejected from Skybar for behaving in a disorderly manner early on Wednesday. The man was escorted out by a bouncer, but when he resisted, police were called. No charges were laid.

• A 30-year-old Argentinian man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in relation to burglaries of a restaurant in central Queenstown. Senior Sergeant Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said yesterday the man had been employed by the restaurant and allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash. When interviewed by police, the man allegedly admitted other burglaries from the same premises on June 11 and 12, Snr Sgt Blackford said. The Argentinian is due to appear in court on Monday on four charges of burglary.

• A young woman reported the theft of her laptop computer from a backpackers' hostel in central Queenstown on Wednesday evening. Snr Sgt Blackford said a man was in the hostel room when she secured the laptop in a drawer. Inquiries are continuing.

• A 22-year-old Englishman was arrested after he urinated on an electricity cabinet on Brecon St on Thursday at 2.30am. He was given a pre-charge warning, Snr Sgt Blackford said.

• Police have been notified a possum eradication exercise will be conducted on Ben Lomond Station, Mt Creighton Station, Henley Downs and Remarkables Station from August 1 to September 30.
