"Punched in the face for trying to be a good citizen"

A 19-year-old Dunedin man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a member of the public who tried to wake him after he was found asleep on the ground outside a restaurant at 9.37pm on Friday.

Senior Constable Chris Blackford said the person was allegedly "punched in the face for trying to be a good citizen".

The man was charged with assault.

• A 23-year-old Australian was arrested and charged with being unlawfully on a property after he entered a hotel room and tipped the furniture upside down.

The man was staying at the hotel in Frankton Rd and accessed the room via his balcony at 2.50am on Saturday.

• At 1.05pm on Saturday, police searched a Queenstown address, where they found 2.1g of cannabis. A 25-year-old Englishman was arrested and charged with possession of the drug.

• At 6pm on Saturday, police attended an incident at Frankton Motor Camp in which a baseball bat was allegedly brandished after an argument over spilt beer on a car. Snr Const Blackford said a woman became upset after somebody spilt beer on her car. A male with a baseball bat allegedly confronted the man who spilt the beer, demanding the car be cleaned. Inquiries are continuing.

• Police were called to Steamer Wharf at 2.50am on Sunday after reports a man had removed his clothes and appeared to have gone for a swim. A search of the area failed to find any evidence. No charges were laid.
