Father's Day activities join others on Sunday

NZSKI lift operator Megan Burke is stocking up on eggs and spoons before Father's Day on Sunday.

She is organising games for father-and-child teams of two.

The games will be held before the Big Air competition for skiers and snowboarders.

The overall Big Weekender event is replacing last year's Slopestyle. Because of the Father's Day element and the viewing potential from the Remarkables' base building, the weekend's organisers aim to cater to spectators.

The Big Air event, in which skiers and snowboarders perform tricks to win prize money, will begin at 11am, and the Father's Day games will begin at 9am.

The games include an egg-and-spoon race, a beanbag-balancing race and a three-legged race.

Ms Burke also organised this year's "Coronet Plays Cupid" chairlift speed-dating night on Coronet Peak.

Tomorrow night, those wanting a shot at love will be randomly matched by either "Cupid" or Coronet's lift operators, then loaded as a pair on the chairlift.

The inaugural event was held last year and this year two rainbow lines will join the pink and blue lines, in honour of Gay Ski Week.
