Remarkables Primary School could soon have a sports field
three times the size of its current sportsground.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council has granted permission,
subject to public consultation, for the project and the
school is seeking resource consent. The land is an
irregular-shaped, 1600sq m section of Frankton Domain, which
borders the school.
It is proposed that at times when Remarkables Primary is not
using the field, such as at holidays and weekends, it be made
available for use by sports groups, with Lakes Leisure
managing bookings.
The land is council-owned and at the August community
services meeting, committee chairwoman Cath Gilmour said the
council had to clarify this was not setting a precedent
allowing the public to gain control of council-owned land.
Trees on the land are being removed and will be replanted
once the earthworks have been completed.
Neighbours and the general public are being consulted at
present and given the opportunity to comment on the granting
of a licence to occupy the reserve.
