Coverage significant

Next year's Winter Games in the Queenstown Lakes district and the Maniototo will be broadcast on television in at least 25 countries.

Games media manager Victoria Murray-Orr said this week organisers had come to an arrangement with IMG Media to provide television and internet coverage including 14 daily television highlights packages.

Ms Murray-Orr said the games would be one of the top-five winter sports events in the world next year.

Competitors will be attempting to qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The games include five FIS World Cup and three IPC World Cup events.

Winter Games chief executive Arthur Klap said the partnership with IMG was indicative of the standard the games had reached.

The games feature alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboard, freeskiing and curling at Coronet Peak, Snow Farm, Snow Park, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Naseby, and run from August 11-25.
