The Ministry of Education is reviewing its security
arrangements at the old Wanaka Primary School in Tenby St.
At least 24 windows were broken by rocks and bricks last
Saturday afternoon and police have been interviewing a group
of 12 and 13-year-olds.
A ministry spokeswoman told the Otago Daily Times
yesterday broken windows had been boarded up and, while a
quote was being obtained, a decision to reglaze had not yet
been made.
Asked about progress towards the sale of the property, the
spokeswoman said the school was now being "re-offered" to
Ngai Tahu pursuant to the Ngai Tahu Claims Settlement Act
1998.
In response to questions raised by neighbours about the
former school being "overvalued", the spokeswoman said
professional advice had been sought from "property experts
with good local knowledge".
She would not provide a detailed valuation because it was
commercially sensitive.
