Queenstown's Sevens with Altitude Committee won the supreme
award at the 2012 TrustPower Queenstown Lakes District
Community Awards at Edgewater in Wanaka on Monday night.
The group, which won $1500 in prize money for its nine years
of voluntary work organising the annual National Rugby Sevens
tournament in Queenstown, will now represent the region at
the 2012 TrustPower National Community Awards, in the Far
North district in March 2013.
Other Queenstown groups which were recognised at the awards
night were the Wakatipu Community Maritime Preservation
Society (heritage and environment winner), the Arrowtown
police Station Volunteers and St John Wakatipu (health and
wellbeing joint winners), Rockformation Charitable Trust
(arts and culture runner-up), Queenstown Ice Hockey Club
(sport and leisure runner-up), Altrusa International Club
Queenstown (educational and child/youth development winner),
St Margaret's Remarkable Readers (educational and child/youth
development runner-up).
Wakatipu High School pupils Levi Healey and Caitlin Jack were
finalists in the youth community spirit category.
