Based on monthly statistics, Lakes Environmental noise
enforcement officers can expect the number of noise
complaints received last month to more than double heading
into summer
The number of complaints so far for 2012, show 105 and 106
complaints were received in January and February
respectively. The number varied for the following months.
In June, winter festival month, there were 65 complaints
compared with 29 in May and 64 in April.
A total of 70 complaints were received in August and 60 in
September, October dropped to 41.
Following some of the complaints, excessive noise directives
were issued by Queenstown Lakes District Council noise
enforcement officers.
Ten notices were issued in January, and 31 in February.
The highest number for a month in 2012 has so far been June,
with 23 notices issued for 65 complaints.
A spokesman from Lakes Environmental said an excessive noise
directive could result in equipment, such as stereos, being
seized with the aid of a police officer.
