Summerdaze here again

The summer forecast for Queenstown features entertainment galore with the ninth annual Summerdaze Festival.

Queenstown Lakes District Council arts and events facilitator Jan Maxwell said the month-long programme would keep people entertained over the extended holiday period.

The festival, which runs from December 31 to January 31, would include some "old favourites" like the Tea Dance and Teddy Bears' Picnic, along with the Pyjama Party, a new event aimed at the younger residents and visitors.

"We're expecting a lot of interest in these ... what child wouldn't want to come along to the library after hours with a blankie and teddy for a kid-friendly evening of entertainment, hot chocolate and stories?

"The Pyjama Party in the Library promises to be an evening to remember in both Queenstown and Wanaka," Mrs Maxwell said.

One event making a welcome return to the programme was the TomTom Outdoor Cinema, to be held at the Red Barn at Remarkables Park.

"People love the idea of watching a movie under the stars and being able to watch the sun set behind the Remarkables before the movie starts up will make for a truly idyllic experience."

The 2011-12 festival would feature about 40 events, beginning with New Year's Eve celebrations in Queenstown and Wanaka.

The Summerdaze calendar is at www.summerdaze.co.nz and copies will be delivered to households in the district early next month.
