The Wakatipu Anglican Parish Market Day was held on Saturday
morning to raise money for family support in the area.
Hundreds turned out for the bargains, the flowers, the food
and the entertainment. The money raised was all going to a
worthy cause.
Queenstown's fast-growing population has meant a new family
support worker is needed and so the church aims to raise an
extra $15,000 for the needed part-time role.
Once hired, the support worker would help build a network
between families and the Anglican Church, based on Church St
in the centre of town.
Statistics New Zealand released population projections in
October which predicted an additional 17,400 residents in the
Queenstown Lakes district by 2031, and the population
increasing at a rate of 2.2% a year until 2031.
This has meant the parish has to boost its support systems to
meet the growing population.
