Three Aucklanders visiting Queenstown found themselves
stranded in deep cool water on Saturday after capsizing a
hired jet ski on Lake Wakatipu before being rescued by
commercial operators.
At 2.20pm, a helicopter pilot found the three adults, who
were wearing life jackets, treading water beside the upturned
jet ski and called
police.
Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said before he arrived on
the lakefront, two commercial operators, Kawarau Jet and
Queenstown Water Taxis, had arrived to help.
The Kawarau Jet operators helped the three people on to their
boat and helped flip the jet ski back the right way up.
''It was a fantastic response from all the commercial
carriers,'' Sgt Watt said.
The driver of the hired jet ski was a 24-year-old male while
the tow passengers' details were not known to police.
The three were not injured and did not require hospital or
ambulance attention.
