The 31 Plunket babies from Queenstown and surrounding
areas born in September, which is literacy month, have received
a book from service club Altrusa.
Ella Wilson, of Altrusa Queenstown, passed brightly wrapped
books to Plunket community Karitane nurse Madelin Lawn, and
these were distributed to the babies' families recently.
Ms Wilson said Altrusa, which has about 20 members, gave
books every year to babies born during Literacy Month and
funding for the books came from a catering function.
Altrusa also gave $5000 to Queenstown Plunket's newly
renovated outdoor area, including a large all-weather
sandpit, artificial turf and outdoor toys.
Plans had begun for Altrusa's annual golf tournament, a major
fundraiser, to be held on January 13.
