Nearly 500 Queenstown Hill residents can now order ultrafast
broadband, as Chorus continues work to install the service in
Queenstown. Chorus communications and brand head Melanie
Marshall said work alongside schools had been completed in
readiness for the school year and work was under way in Gorge
Rd.
Work is scheduled to start in the resort's CBD, including
Shotover St, in mid to late February ''in order to avoid
disruption during the peak summer period''.
The installation was on track, Ms Marshall said. Chorus
worked closely with local councils to co-ordinate other
contracted works ''so we minimise disruption and
inconvenience to the public''.
''Wherever possible we look to use existing ducts ... so we
minimise any major trenching work.''
There was a lot of ducting in Queenstown's CBD, which
minimised disruption during installation. The
company laid fibre infrastructure along streets and when
customer placed an order ''there may be some additional
digging involved in getting the fibre from the street
boundary to the customer'', she said.
