Construction is expected to begin this month on three
more concept homes at the Bendemeer development, near
Arrowtown, in response to inquiries for ''turn key'' land and
home packages.
Bendemeer marketing executive Sarah Cairns said the
development's first concept home, known as the ''contemporary
barn and lot 22'', was designed by Francis Whitaker, to
reflect the form of the land and the rural outlook.
The additional concept homes, being built in response to
market demand and to simplify the building process for
owners, had been designed by architect Mason and Wales.
''We are seeing more inquiries for `turn key' land and home
packages ... without the hassle of the building and consent
process,'' Ms Cairns said.
It was proposed the three homes would be built once lot 22
was completed, and all four homes would be available for
purchase off the plans, or once building was complete.
Mr Whitaker said Bendemeer's sense of space and rural living
had inspired his design for the four concept homes, which
will be built using local materials.
''Bendemeer is a very special place, because of its seclusion
and privacy, and the way in which it connects with the rim of
mountains that wrap around the Wakatipu Basin. It's a
wonderful sense of space.''
Looking back on the property's history as a working farm, Mr
Whitaker said he was inspired by the combination of the
agrarian setting and the surrounding alpine landscape. These
resulted in designs which made the most of the views and all
day sun, while also blending contemporary and traditional
design with functionality in open living spaces.
Building would be overseen by development management company
Trinity Development Alliance, whose co-director Wayne Foley
was well known for the development of several commercial and
residential properties in Wakatipu, including the Commonage
Close Apartments on Queenstown Hill, also designed by Mr
Whitaker.
Mr Foley said the company was ''incredibly excited'' to be
involved with the Bendemeer development.
Sections there range from one to three hectares and are
priced from $645,000. Land and house packages start from $1.8
million.
