Queenstown police are investigating more than a dozen theft
complaints in Kelvin Heights from Friday night.
The thefts were predominantly from unlocked motor vehicles
but there have also been some reports of theft of fuel
containers, as well as interference with boats parked at
residential addresses on trailers.
Multiple thefts have been reported in the following streets -
Peninsula Rd, Milward Pl, Oregon Dr, Sequoia Pl and Cedar Dr.
Some items of the stolen property have been recovered in
Jardines Park and it is likely the offenders were travelling
by vehicle, given the spread of the incidents reported,
Detective Brian Cameron said.
The items found in the park included fuel tanks likely to
have been taken from one of the boats targeted, Det Cameron
said.
He said someone might have seen the people involved
transferring the fuel into their vehicle. Police were calling
for anyone who might have seen suspicious activity in the
area or who might have found any possibly stolen items on
their property to come forward as soon as possible.
Given the number of holiday homes in the area, police are
asking residents to make a check of neighbouring properties
if they know the owners are away, to ensure they are secure.
