Warbirds plan for mystery extra event

The Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow could extend its run for 2014, with a new event soon to be announced.

Tickets for the 14th airshow at Wanaka Airport go on saleon Monday and organisers are inviting those attending to stay an extra day for a yet-to-be-confirmed event on Monday, April 21.

The airshow will take place over the three preceding days - April 18, 19 and 20. Warbirds over Wanaka general manager Ed Taylor said he could not reveal any details about the proposed event as it was still being finalised. However, it would be ''aligned with the airshow''.

The new event would be announced in the next few of weeks, Mr Taylor said.

Several additions have been made to the ticket structure for next year's show.

These include a new family pass, benefits for early booking, a facility for people to print their own tickets, and an early bird Friday silver pass.

''The silver pass will again prove very popular with a one-day option for grandstand seating,'' the airshow's event manager, Mandy Deans, said.

About 50,000 attended the previous airshow.

Based on the number of requests for ticket sales since then, organisers are anticipating another sellout of gold and silver passes. The flying and ground programmes are in the process of being developed for the Easter 2014 show.
