A man was taken to the Queenstown police station after a bus
driver mistook his diabetic coma for intoxication.
The 37-year-old Queenstown man was taking the Connectabus
home on Friday night when he went into a diabetic coma.
The bus driver was under the initial impression he was
''grossly intoxicated'', Queenstown police Senior Constable
Chris Blackford said.
The diabetic was taken to the police station where an
ambulance was called to attend to him.
Snr Const Blackford commended the bus driver's
foresight in bringing the diabetic man into the station
rather than ''booting him off the bus'', which could have
been fatal. The man was not wearing a medical bracelet at the
time.
