Formed last year, the Lakes District Celtic Society is having
its inaugural Irish party to celebrate St Patrick's Day.
The celebration will be of all things Irish on Sunday at
Arrowtown's Fork and Tap with live music, Irish dancing,
and a jig performed by the mini Buckingham Belles.
The society meets at the Fork and Tap on the first Wednesday
of each month and also hosts live music evenings every three
months.
Organiser Alice Hutchens said the idea was to keep people in
touch with their Celtic backgrounds and other Celtic events
going on in the area.
The society also helps fund the Queenstown Pipe Band, which
recently took part in a national competition.
The St Patrick's Day event was free and Mrs Hutchens said
everyone was welcome to celebrate the big day on the Celtic
calendar.
The Fork and Tap had an Irish chef, who was putting together
an Irish meal for those who booked ahead, she said.
