Those interested in entering the real estate industry can now
study for a national certificate at a Queenstown campus.
Locations Realty, through Otago Polytechnic, is seeking to
sign up 15 recruits for a three-week course that will include
lectures in Queenstown, an initiative first started by the
company in Wanaka last year.
Locations Realty director Greg Ross said because of the high
number of sales in the area - reaching levels not experienced
since 2007 - the company sought to take on more graduates.
For the first time, there were options to study here rather
than through correspondence or moving to the main centres of
Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland, he said.
''It is timely to have it in Queenstown as there are a large
amount of people looking at joining the industry in
Queenstown.''
February had the highest sales activity in the Wakatipu in
six years, with 83 properties sold, including 22 sections.
This was sparked by demand for sections at Lake Hayes Estate
and Jacks Point from residents wanting to build and reflected
a tightening of listings for family homes.
Mr Ross said the company was on a recruitment drive and would
benefit by employing those who passed the course.
