Tickets go on sale today for the third annual Songstars
talent competition in the Queenstown Memorial Centre on April
The 10 Wakatipu talents selected to perform their own
original songs live in the showcase are Rebecca Barnes, Alex
Frazer, Charlotte Graf, Sam Hillman, Holly Hoogvliet, Sam
Maxwell, Marty Newell, Tori Reed, Isabella Reid and Paul
Director Margaret O'Hanlon, musical director Pol Nicholson,
production manager and co-producer Nicky Viggers and
co-producer Nigel Hirst, all of Whirlwind Productions, chose
the mixture of seasoned stage performers and novices from
auditions in late February.
The Songstars hopefuls will perform for the audiences in a
different order, for fairness, on each of the three nights.
Spectators will vote for their favourite act each night and
the results will be tallied to find the overall champion.
The winner of Songstars 2013 will be awarded $1000 and the
opportunity to record their song professionally in a studio.
Young Arrowtown folk singer-songwriter Holly Arrowsmith won
the competition last year and was invited to perform during
this year's shows.
Ms Viggers said yesterday the calibre of performers and songs
built each year.
''We're just about to start rehearsing and last year was a
pretty high standard and the previous year was extraordinary
and blew most people away.
''This year I'm not expecting any different.''
• Doors open at 7.30pm for the show at 8pm. Tickets
are available from the i-Site Queenstown Visitor Centre. They
cost $40 an adult and $25 for children aged 16 and under.
