Queen's weekend mishaps

On Friday, May 316.23pm, a 31-year-old South African man living in Queenstown was arrested for allegedly driving while disqualified for the third time. The man is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court today.

Saturday, June 1

• 3.30am: An ''extremely intoxicated'' 21-year-old Swedish man was arrested for trespassing when he allegedly entered a private residence in Lake St.

The man told police he was ''looking for a place to sleep, or a job, he wasn't sure which'', Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said yesterday.

• A 27-year-old Queenstown woman, born in Germany, was arrested on a charge of common assault, outside a bar on Steamer Wharf. The woman allegedly accused the doorman of racism when she was refused entry, then kicked him in the thigh.

She allegedly continued to kick his shins while he restrained her until police arrived.

• 4am: The offender who kicked a makeshift wooden gate off its hinges outside a Man St apartment is believed to have left behind his sweater and jacket at the scene.

• 5.45am: A 31-year-old Queenstown man was remanded in custody until his expected appearance in the Queenstown court today after an altercation with his flatmate.

Sgt Watt said the man was arrested as a result of allegedly pushing the woman against a wall of their shared residence, which caused her to bump her head.

His bail conditions ordered him not to return to the address, but he allegedly returned to collect his cellphone and car.

He was charged with driving with a breath-alcohol level of 858mcg and for breaching his bail conditions, and was remanded in custody until his court date.

• 3pm: There was an altercation between a 17-year-old youth and an alleged offender who was known to the boy and police, outside the Village Dairy in Adamson Dr, Arrowtown.

The alleged offender stepped out of the car he was driving, exchanged words with the victim, then allegedly punched his head and hit his face with a beer bottle. The bottle did not break, but the boy was taken to Lakes District Hospital for observation.

Sunday, June 2

• 8am: A 20-year-old Alexandra man was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour after he allegedly discharged a fire extinguisher at a backpackers' hostel in Church St. Guests were evacuated and the offender was identified by security camera footage.

The man is due to appear in the Queenstown court today.

• 10pm: A group of five were dining at an Indian restaurant when two men came in off the street, approached the group and asked them if they wanted to ''do lines of cocaine'', Sgt Watt said.

''The group declined. One of the men grabbed the throat of one of the men [at the table] and threw him to the ground. The two offenders decamped out of the restaurant.''

Sgt Watt said ''it appears to be a bizarre set of circumstances'', but police were confident security footage from the restaurant would help identify and locate the offenders.

Police appealed to any other witnesses who saw the offending .

Monday, June 3

• Public toilets in Lake Hayes Estate and at the Frankton bus shelter were reported vandalised again overnight on Sunday.
