Miner seeks consent

A New Zealand mining company is seeking consent to explore land near Glenorchy for scheelite, which is used to make the strategic mineral tungsten.

New Zealand Tungsten Mining Limited (NZTM) is seeking resource consent from the Queenstown Lakes District Council for the drilling exploration activity.

The drilling would occur on Earnslaw Station, north of Glenorchy, and between the Dart River and Diamond Lake.

The application said hand-held petrol-powered drills would be used to excavate cores up to 6m deep and the holes would then be filled. In New Zealand, scheelite is found near Glenorchy, at Macraes Flat and at Wakamarina in Marlborough.
