Dart River Jet's annual locals day will this year raise funds
for Glenorchy School's Enviro project.
Wakatipu residents are invited to enjoy the Wilderness Jet or
Dart River Funyak on October 19 at reduced prices.
The Wilderness Jet would be priced at $85 per adult, with one
accompanying child free and $25 per extra child.
The Funyak trip also included a jet-boat ride, an expedition
in ''Funyak'' canoes, and a wilderness buffet for $99 per
adult or child over 5 years old.
Dart River Jet operations manager Callan Grimmer said the
company's annual locals' day enabled it to give back to the
''small and tight-knit'' community and ''open up'' its
''We chose the Enviro project ... because it complements our
company philosophy of protecting the environment for future
generations and we have a strong emphasis on educating our
guests on the local environment.
''Our trip is regarded as one of New Zealand's most
sensational journeys and by coming and experiencing it first
hand, locals know they're helping out a very good cause.
''While we take plenty of international tourists out to see
our stunning national park, we don't see many locals getting
the chance to experience what's on their back doorstep,'' Mr
Glenorchy School principal Esther Hamilton said they were
''extremely privileged and grateful'' to be nominated as this
Funds would be used to create raised garden beds and enhance
the area to create an ''inviting, natural place'' for the
children to have lunch, as well as install a shaded sandpit
for the younger pupils.
''The fundraising process is usually lengthy and so the funds
will accelerate the work we want to do to provide a better
environment for our children,'' Ms Hamilton said.

Both trips must be pre-booked and a utilities bill or proof
of residence of six months or more must be provided, along
with photo identification. Children under 5 and 1m in height
