The arrival of warmer weather usually heralds the start of
wedding season - although a few hardy couples like to marry
on snow-capped mountains during the peak of winter.
It should come as no surprise for Queenstown residents that
the most popular council-owned venue for a wedding in the
Wakatipu district is the Lake Hayes Pavilion - 16 weddings
were held there during the past year, according to council
The Queenstown Gardens, including the rotunda and rose
gardens, came a close second with 15 weddings and Arrowtown's
Athenaeum Hall hosted four.
The Queenstown Memorial Centre was closed due to its
refurbishment for most of the past year,
reopening in March.
Council communications adviser Jan Maxwell said one couple
married near St Omer Park but the council did not have a
booking system for such locations.
