The Hoamz Queenstown team pictured with one of seven Wishing Trees which have been set up around the Wakatipu ahead of the 2013 Shotover Jet Christmas Cracker concert on December 14.

Event manager Simon Green said trees had been installed at the Hoamz office on Shotover St, the Queenstown Events Centre, Remarkables Primary School, St Joseph's School, Arrowtown School and Queenstown Primary School.

The final tree will be set up at Santa's Grotto on Athol St, which will open next Tuesday.

Each year, children were invited to decorate a Christmas ''bauble'' and make a wish before hanging it on one of the trees, with one wish granted at the annual Christmas concert, this year being held on the Queenstown Rec Ground.

''It's encouraging kids to make a wish on someone else's behalf ... stopping to think about people who might be a bit less fortunate.''

Past wishes saw about five shopping trolleys full of new toys delivered to the Toy Library, a family given a holiday to the Catlins, including fuel and food, a BMX bike delivered to a child who had only ever had second-hand bikes and a Labrador puppy going to a family in time for Christmas.

• Wishes can be made until December 11.
