One year and celebrating Friday

After a fast-paced year, one of Queenstown's leading restaurants will celebrate its first birthday on Friday.

The Jervois Steak House was launched on December 6 last year by celebrity chef Simon Gault and restaurateur Richard Sigley on behalf of the Nourish Group and has since received accolades for bringing the ''American-style steak house concept'' to the resort.

Restaurant manager Jason Medina said the birthday was a chance to thank regional businesses, tourism operators and residents for their ''incredible support''.

''Our team here is very much part of the Queenstown community and together we have firmly established the restaurant as one of the `must do' dining experiences to have.''

The team's focus had been to deliver a modern and authentic steak-house style, similar to the flagship JSH in Auckland.

''I expect my team to deliver exceptional service to match our famed menu of pedigree quality beef, lamb and seafood dishes.

''JSH has proven to be a place where locals and visitors come together to enjoy this level of fine hospitality and great food.''

Mr Medina said Mr Gault regularly visited the restaurant and was the inspiration behind the dishes created there.

''He designed a stand-alone vegetarian menu especially for Queenstown because the demand was so high, that has now been adopted in the Auckland restaurant.''

Further, the restaurant had introduced $15 lunch specials on Thursdays and Fridays, filling a gap in the market.

The birthday celebrations on Friday will be marked with a glass of bubbles or local wine for the first 50 people to arrive at the JSH bar from 4pm.
