About 160 Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago residents created a blur of red and white from the starting line of the inaugural Great KidsCan Santa Run at Jack's Point, near Queenstown, yesterday.

Fundraising fun-runners of all ages donned the quintessential red suit, beard and hat of Father Christmas and jingled all the way around a choice of 3km or 5km courses, organised by Active QT, despite the the 24degC heat.

Santa Runs were held in 16 locations across the country, including Dunedin. Organisers aim to add more locations and increase participant numbers next year.
