The estimated $1.8 million Arrowtown Community and Sports
Centre has been boosted by $600,000 in the latest round of
grants from the Central Lakes Trust.
The multi-use facility for up to 170 people at Jack Reid Park
will include three community rooms, kitchen and social area,
toilets, changing rooms and storage.
Other facilities to receive grants were Coastguard Queenstown
($250,000), Wanaka Community House Charitable Trust
($195,970) and Cromwell Squash Club ($80,000).
Coastguard Queenstown intends to build a marine rescue
operations centre and boat ramp on a site next to the Scout
hall in Frankton.
It is the primary marine search and rescue service for Lake
Wakatipu and the Kawarau River to the Shotover confluence.
It has 23 volunteers who are on call all year round.
In the past six years, Coastguard Queenstown has rescued 143
people, responded to 76 assistance calls from the public and
been tasked by police to 50 search and rescue incidents.
