Lakefront users were warned to keep away from ground saturated with wastewater in Frankton on Sunday and yesterday. The area is beside a public toilet block, near a popular walkway and opposite Remarkables Primary School. Photo by James Beech.

Today is the earliest the beach near the latest sewage overflow in Queenstown could open after water samples were sent away by the Queenstown Lakes District Council for quality testing.

The council will advise the community if the test gives the all-clear.

Council staff, equipment and contractors, including one company which uses key-hole cameras in drains, worked along the 100m section of Frankton waterfront yesterday to find the cause of the blockage causing the overflow and to sterilise the beach.
