Queenstown digital text artist Paul Sewter finally got to exhibit part of his ''Sonnets'' series in the Earnslaw Park public toilets on Sunday.

Mr Sewter said he was pleased with the reaction to his works, which were accompanied by a ''warning'' for people entering toilet stalls.

Late last year Mr Sewter approached the Queenstown Lakes District Council wanting to exhibit his works in the toilets or Queenstown Gardens, but a council representative told him ''senior council management'' believed some people might be offended by the digital paintings, featuring abstract nudes.

Following an inquiry from the Otago Daily Times, the council revised its stance and met Mr Sewter to discuss his proposal.

Mr Sewter plans to stage another pop-up exhibition in the Queenstown Gardens rose garden on Sunday, weather-dependent, featuring his ''Control, Alt, Delete'' series.
