Back-to-school driving message

Motorists are being reminded to adhere to the 20kmh speed limit when passing a stationary school bus - regardless of what side of the road it is on - as children prepare to return to school.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council has teamed up with police and bus companies to remind drivers of the speed limits, with ''dummy school buses'' parked on roadsides around Wanaka as a reminder.

Electronic signs will be used to raise awareness in the Queenstown area. Total Span is installing 20kmh reminder signs on its school bus shelters.
