The first artist's impression of the proposed $14 million Shotover Primary School was included in the outline plan lodged by the Ministry of Education and now being reviewed by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

The image supports the plan's statements about how the low-rise design, colour scheme and orientation of the school is intended to be sympathetic to the natural environment, at the heart of the $300 million Shotover Country greenfield development.

The state-integrated school is separate from Shotover Country and the real school logo is being designed.

Plans show one large detached main ''learning community'' block, an L-shaped block for both ''learning community'' and administration and a third building as a multi-purpose hall. Extra land is earmarked for future use.

The school, for years 1-8, is due for a staged opening from early 2015.
