Queenstown taxi driver attacked and robbed

Police are appealing for public help after three men attacked a Queenstown taxi driver and robbed him of $700 early this morning.

The 24-year-old driver suffered minor injuires in the attack and is recovering at home.

The driver picked up a male passenger in the Queenstown CBD and gave him a lift to the Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park around 3.15am.

The passenger said he couldn't pay so the taxi driver took him to the Queenstown Memorial Recreation Ground to meet a friend who had some money.

When the passenger didn't return to the taxi, the driver went on foot to look for him and was attacked and robbed by the passenger and two other men.

Two of the men then took a cash box from the taxi, which contained around $700 in cash.

Police want to hear from anyone who might have seen people acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the recreation ground, Robins Road and Gorge Road at around 3.30am this morning.

They are particularly interested in any sightings of a white sedan car that was seen in the area at the time.
