Rock fans out in number at Gibbston

Classic rock fans have come out in force for the Gibbston Summer Concert today.

A crowd of 14,000, the largest audience of the participating bands' New Zealand tour, massed in overcast but dry conditions near Queenstown.

Wanaka singer-songwriter Jody Direen impressed with her set of originals before English art rockers 10CC got the crowd in their feet with hits such as 'Dreadlock Holiday'.

US band Starship played to great acclaim, with power ballad 'We Built This City' especially well received.

Headliners Lynyrd Skynyrd were scheduled to play later in the afternoon, before the good-natured and diverse audience.
