Top 10 mini-plays to hit the stage

More than 70 original pieces of theatre suitable for a pub have been entered for Pint Size Plays in Queenstown and now Wanaka as well.

Mini-plays involving one to three characters and lasting about five minutes in duration, which can be performed with the minimal props, costumes and space available in a pub, were entered by the deadline of November 30.

Remarkable Theatre members shortlisted the anonymous entries to come up with the top 10, based on originality and entertainment.

The selected entries will be performed in the Gin and Raspberry bar, Wanaka, on March 2, then at SkyCity Queenstown Casino on March 9.

The theatre group decided to take the show over the Crown Range for the first time this year to play for a different audience and to make the most of the voluntary cast and crew's rehearsals.

The winner will be decided by the Queenstown audience and will be awarded the coveted pint pot trophy.

Actor-playwright Mike Legge, of Queenstown, won the first ''Pint Size Plays New Zealand'' competition for his comedic play Dinosaur last year.
