Stan Walker fans rushed to the stage screaming with joy when he stepped on to perform at the Classic Hits Winery Tour on Friday evening.

Walker was a change from the laid-back sounds of Breaks Co-Op who had opened the tour, and another change again were headline act the Exponents.

The New Zealand rock band compelled about half the audience to hit the grass dance floor up front, or dance on the spot next to their picnic - and the rest of the crowd was at least wiggling their feet.

Strong winds blew throughout the event and, looking towards greying skies, Walker told the audience that people had said to him there would be a storm but he was certain it would not rain on the show.

And he was right.

However, it did rain hits, with Breaks Co-Op performing their summer anthem from 2005, Other Side, and Australian Idol winner Walker delighting mostly younger fans when he announced he would go back to where it all started with Black Box.

Then the Exponents blasted the hills of Gibbston from Waitiri Creek with the well known hits Victoria, Why Does Love Do This To Me, I'll Say Goodbye and Who Loves Who the Most mixed in with other songs.
