Two sheep on the lam caused a brief moment of excitement in
Wanaka yesterday morning.
The sheep escaped while on the way to the Upper Clutha
One was eventually rounded up on the golf course, after the
intervention of the police, but the other headed for town.
Lake Wanaka i-Site staff member and qualified veterinary
nurse Jamie McGrath told the Otago Daily Times the
i-Site was having a quiet moment when someone noticed the
sheep on Ardmore St.
''All of a sudden the sheep just came in through the door.''
Ms McGrath said the sheep was quickly ''rounded up'' and
because it was bleeding from a cut leg, she used her nursing
skills to attend to it.
Queenstown Lakes District animal control officer Matt
Hargreaves collected the animal and returned it to the
No-one dealing with the sheep could tell the ODT what
sort of sheep it was.
Mr Hargreaves said it was ''a sheep sheep'' and an i-Site
staff member described it as a ''giant sheep''.
