Young leaders of tomorrow are testing their mettle in the latest youth leadership summit organised by the Wakatipu Youth Trust.

Eighteen young people aged 14 to 17 in three teams are in their third week of the seven-week course, funded by the Ministry of Youth Development.

Trust team leader Jacqui Moir said the programme was in the style of the reality television show The Apprentice, where a ''prominent community leader'' gives the teams a task to complete and compete in the offices of Anderson Lloyd Lawyers each week.

The ''Donald Trump'' figure testing the teens so far in the programme has been Joel Peasey, trust chairman and ASB business manager.

Members take turns to act as project leader and the teams are judged by three competitors from last year's summit; Millie Aitkins, Trent Hall and Ella Van der Geest, plus the mentor.

''We will be growing young leaders by offering them information and skills and the opportunities to put into practice those new-found skills,'' Ms Moir said.

The young leaders include Jacqui Bell, Bella Bollinger, Victoria Boult, Chris Conroy, Jacob Flanagan, Rosie Glover, Monique Hannagan, Hebe Hilhorst, Ben Hull, Sophie Lake, Dylan O'Connor, Rebekah Paul, James Ramsey, Zoe Richards, Alyssa Vandegeer and Jamie Waaka.
