Transtasman visitor boost

There will be an extra 40,000 seats to and from Queenstown during the peak winter season provided by alliance partners Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia.

Last week, Jetstar announced an extra 15,000 seats between Australia and Queenstown for winter, in addition to the extra winter seats announced by Qantas two months ago.

In a statement yesterday, Air New Zealand said transtasman seat capacity to Queenstown would increase by more than 12% between July and September as a result of up to five additional transtasman services a week.

Domestic capacity from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to Queenstown would also increase by 11% as a result of using larger aircraft.

Air New Zealand chief sales and commercial officer Cam Wallace said the alliance partners now provided almost three times as many transtasman seats to Queenstown as five years ago.
