New faces on arts festival trust board

Queenstown businessman and philanthropist Sir Eion Edgar has joined the Southern Lakes Arts Festival Trust board, along with fundraising specialist Fiona McPhee and teacher and journalist Annabel Wilson.

They follow the appointment last October of Mark Verbiest, chairman of the board of directors of Telecom and TransPower and also a trustee of Wellington's New Zealand Festival.

Chairwoman Hetty Van Hale said all four had been specifically recruited to strengthen governance in key areas identified in a strategic review conducted after the most recent festival in April, 2013.

Sir Eion is chairman of Forsyth Barr and Winter Games New Zealand.

He has been involved in many charitable and sporting organisations including the New Zealand Olympic Committee, of which he is honorary president, plus the Central Lakes Trust, the Skeggs Foundation and the University of Otago.

The next Southern Lakes Festival of Colour will be held in April next year.
