A pool at the Queenstown Events Centre was closed for about three hours yesterday from 1.45pm after a toddler defecated in it.
A pool supervisor said the incident was ''just an accident'' and happened ''every so often''.
A procedure is followed to clean the pool and the other swimmers were offered the option of either swimming in the learners' pool or leaving with a refund.
The pool was ''fairly busy'', as this is the second week of the school holidays, and there was nothing the staff could have done to prevent the incident.
