A tramper was found safe and well in the Rees Valley
yesterday after being reported overdue by two associates on
Senior Constable Julian Cahill, of Queenstown, said police
found the 20-year-old Norwegian yesterday morning ''walking
back towards civilisation''.
The man and his two friends had parked their vehicle at Muddy
Creek late last week to begin the Rees-Dart loop, but the
20-year-old began complaining of a sore leg. The man opted to
stay at Shelter Rock Hut for a day or two to recuperate
before walking back to the car at Muddy Creek - an estimated
When his associates reached Muddy Creek on Sunday night they
found the vehicle still there and no sign of their friend.
A search and rescue team was deployed on Monday morning and
the man was found by police in a 4WD vehicle.
