Wakatipu High School's principal is delighted by the school's
latest Education Review Office report.
The report, released this week, praised the school, which
caters for 700 pupils.
Before principal Steve Hall's tenure began in 2012, the
school had been criticised by the ERO in 2011. Mr Hall said
there had since been ''lots of effort and determination'' by
''We are absolutely delighted.''
The positive review was ''just so important for the school''.
The damning 2011 report led to the eventual resignation of
then principal Lyn Cooper.
''In those circumstances the fact that it shows such
considerable progress since that last proper report is
important and therefore really satisfying for the board, for
the staff and the community.''
He credited changes in senior leadership, ''not just me'',
and ultimately ''a whole lot of things have come together to
make a difference''.
The school displayed ''effective teaching strategies'', the
latest report said.
It also noted pupils were ''keen participants in the wider
life of the school'', the school was becoming more effective
in promoting and supporting educational success for Maori
pupils, and the board had a ''good balance of longer-serving
and newer trustees''.
