The invitation to New Zealand's ''First Gay and Lesbian Wedding'', designed by Queenstown's Alyssandra Skerrett. The invitation was recognised recently at the Pride in Print Awards, being awarded a gold medal.

Handcrafted invitations to ''The First Gay and Lesbian Wedding in New Zealand'' won the Queenstown designer a gold medal at the New Zealand Pride in Print Awards held in Auckland last month.

Alyssandra Skerrett was selected as the stationery designer for the event, a promotion run by The Edge radio station - and had just days to create the invitations.

Ms Skerrett said she wanted the invitation to reflect the history of Rotorua Museum and that the museum was making history by hosting New Zealand's first double gay and lesbian wedding.

Pride in Print Awards manager Sue Archibald said the standard of critique by the judging panel was ''exacting''.

''So for her to reach the gold standard is a massive compliment to the quality of her work. It also shows that the 'small' personal design company can compete with the best. That is the essence of Pride in Print.''
