Treble Cone Skifield, near Wanaka, will remain closed this weekend because of a lack of snow on the lower home basin.
The field had been due to hold its official opening day on Thursday but had been affected by warm conditions and rain.
Marketing manager Nick Noble said yesterday light snow was falling on the top of the mountain and more snow was forecast for tomorrow and early next week.
A decision on opening would be made on a ''day-by-day'' basis.
The Snow Farm Ski Area, in the Cardrona Valley, will open today.
